Open-Die Forging

Control the workpiece through the forging cycle while keeping forming force and handling responsibilities clear.

Open-Die ForgingEngineering visualization

Forming force and workpiece control must operate as one cycle.

Open-die forging is defined by the interaction between the forming equipment, the workpiece and the handling machine—not by one machine in isolation.

01

Forming equipment

The press or hammer supplies the forming force and defines the active working zone.

02

Workpiece control

The forging manipulator grips, supports, rotates, lifts and repositions the workpiece between forming actions.

03

Furnace connection

Charging equipment may load, extract or transfer the hot workpiece, while remaining a separate equipment responsibility.

Engineering focus

The forging cycle sets the engineering priorities.

The key question is how the workpiece must move in relation to the press or hammer. Capacity is reviewed together with load moment, geometry, working distance and movement sequence.

Intended outcomeA forging cell in which forming force, workpiece control and auxiliary transfer have clear, coordinated responsibilities.
